An analysis conducted by the American network CNN in partnership with a specialized artificial intelligence company has confirmed that Israel dropped hundreds of large bombs in the first month of its aggression against the Gaza Strip, many of which are capable of killing or injuring people over a thousand feet away. The analysis, published today, indicated that satellite images from the early days of the Gaza War 2023 revealed more than 500 craters measuring over 12 meters in diameter, suggesting they were caused by 2000-pound bombs, which are four times heavier than the bombs the United States dropped on ISIS in the battle of Mosul.
CNN noted that war experts assert that the intensive use of heavy munitions such as 2000-pound bombs is the reason for the significant number of Palestinian casualties, particularly since the Gaza Strip is the most densely populated area in the world. Thus, the use of such heavy munitions has a profound impact. John Chappell from the advocacy and legal affairs unit at the legal organization CIVIC stated that using 2000-pound bombs in a populated area means that the community will take decades to recover from the effects of this destruction. Meanwhile, Mark Garlasco, a former UN war crimes investigator, mentioned that the intensity of Israeli bombing in the first month of the Gaza War 2023 has not been seen since the Vietnam War, nor did it occur during the First and Second Gulf Wars.
Satellite images showed two craters resulting from shelling that experts describe as having an earthquake-like effect, one measuring 24 meters across and the other 13 meters. Larry Lewis, a former advisor to the US State Department on civilian damage, explained to CNN that the intensity of fire in the Gaza Strip over the course of two months is equivalent to the fire in Mosul and Raqqa combined, adding, "It's an incredible amount." He further stated that this bombing in Jabalia is something we would never see the United States do. The leniency of Israel regarding civilian damage compared to the expected benefits of bombing is drastically different from what we could accept as Americans, he said.
CNN's analysis also noted that another large crater consistent with 2000-pound bombs appeared on the coastal highway passing through the beach. In a neighborhood north of the Beach Camp, 14 craters indicating 2000-pound bombs are visible within a square kilometer.
