The Algerian national company "Sonatrach" announced that the "Ain Akar" tanker loaded with fuel oil will set sail for Lebanon this evening, Wednesday. The Algerian company stated in a statement that this oil tanker will carry the first shipment, estimated at 30,000 tons of fuel oil as an initial phase. This comes in implementation of the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who ordered the provision of necessary quantities of fuel oil to Lebanon to operate power plants and restore electricity in the country. According to a previous statement by Sonatrach, the shipment prepared at the Skikda petroleum port is estimated to be around 30,000 tons of fuel oil as a first phase and will be shipped to Lebanon via a fuel tanker belonging to Sonatrach. Earlier this month, the "Electricity of Lebanon" institution announced a complete stop of electricity supply across all Lebanese territories, including essential facilities in the country, due to the failure to secure "gas oil." Lebanon is experiencing a state of tension with ongoing gunfire exchanges between "Hezbollah" and Israel, amidst difficult economic conditions that the country has been facing since 2019, where the value of the Lebanese lira has significantly collapsed, and prices have skyrocketed.
