Houthi Attack Threatens Dozens of Ships: Details of the Complex Red Sea Assault

The U.S. Central Command announced that forces from the United States and Britain intercepted 21 drones and a missile launched by the Houthi movement in Yemen on Tuesday over the southern Red Sea, heading towards international maritime routes. They added that there were no reports of material or human damage, noting this is the 26th attack by the Houthis on commercial shipping lines in the Red Sea since November 19. The U.S. Central Command reported that U.S. and British forces shot down 18 drones, two anti-ship cruise missiles, and one ballistic anti-ship missile. The Houthis have intensified their attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea in protest against the Israeli war in Gaza. Various shipping companies have halted their operations in the Red Sea, redirecting instead to the route around the Cape of Good Hope along Africa. The Houthis have pledged to continue their attacks until Israel stops the conflict in Gaza and warned that they will target U.S. warships if the armed group is targeted.
