Israeli forces assassinated the training officer in the Radwan Unit of Hezbollah, Wissam Tawil (also known as Haj Jawad), along with Adham Sharri, in Kherbet Salim in southern Lebanon. An Israeli drone targeted their vehicle on the road to Dabsha in Kherbet Salim this morning, Monday. Consequently, firefighting and rescue teams from the Islamic Message Association headed to the area.
According to Reuters, two individuals were killed in the Israeli attack, including a high-ranking Hezbollah commander. The party expressed its condolences for Tawil, stating in a message: "With great pride and honor, the Islamic Resistance announces the martyrdom of the mujahid leader Wissam Hasan Tawil 'Haj Jawad' from the town of Kherbet Salim in southern Lebanon, who achieved martyrdom on the road to Jerusalem."
Israeli bombardment of southern areas also included numerous border regions, while the resistance responded by targeting Israeli military positions. The Israeli forces hit the town of Adyssa with phosphorus shells and shelled a livestock farm on the outskirts of Wazzani. Additionally, the Israeli bombardment targeted a commercial establishment on the road to Adyssa, resulting in a fire.
Israeli reconnaissance flights have been heavily active since early morning over the villages of the western and central sectors, particularly over the southern villages and towns adjacent to the Blue Line. Significant damages occurred to a mosque in the border town of Al-Abbasiya after it was hit by two Merkava tank shells, which struck inside the prayer hall and the mosque's minaret.
The Israeli army announced in a statement that it had bombed a military compound and a rocket-launching platform, as well as infrastructure in the towns of Marwahin and Aita al-Chaab.
For its part, the Islamic Resistance reported that "in support of our steadfast Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and in solidarity with its valiant and honorable resistance, the mujahideen of the Islamic Resistance targeted at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 8, 2024, the Hadb Al-Bustan site with appropriate weapons and achieved direct hits." In a second statement, it announced that the Rwaisat Al-Alam site in the Shebaa Farms was also targeted with appropriate weapons, achieving direct hits.
