The Sharjah Book Authority announced on Wednesday that Morocco has been chosen as the "Guest of Honor" for the 43rd edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair, which will take place from November 6 to 17. Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Authority, stated, "We welcome the Kingdom of Morocco as the Guest of Honor at the Sharjah International Book Fair 2024, celebrating the rich literary heritage of the kingdom. Morocco has long been, and continues to be, a beacon of cultural and intellectual progress, and its prominent position at the Sharjah International Book Fair will open a new chapter in our shared Arab heritage."
Morocco's participation program will showcase the latest publications from Moroccan publishing houses, alongside organizing a series of events featuring a large delegation of notable figures in culture, thought, and literature, as well as various artistic and folkloric performances. Moroccan Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, Mohamad Mehdi Bensaid, commented on signing the hosting agreement with the Sharjah Book Authority, stating, "Morocco's presence as a Guest of Honor at the fair marks the beginning of a new advanced phase of coordination, cooperation, and exchange of expertise between the two brotherly countries." The fair, which is classified among the largest cultural exhibitions globally and the highest in terms of buying and selling publishing and translation rights, previously hosted South Korea and, before that, Italy.
