Egyptian customs at Cairo International Airport seized passengers in possession of knives and various drugs, as well as another passenger who attempted to smuggle medical binoculars. A statement from the airport's customs indicated: "The authorities at Cairo International Airport, headed by Dr. Magid Mousa, the head of the central administration, issued six customs seizure reports in the last week of the past year 2023, totaling seventeen reports, in Terminal 2 under the leadership of Ahmed Saad Abdel Moty, the general director, bringing the total number of reports filed during the past year to 155 in Terminal 2 alone."
The statement added: "The third administration, led by Osama Mohamed Diab, the administration manager, and Ahmed Omar Abdel Qader, the deputy manager, was responsible for five of the six seizure reports. The first report, customs report number 151 for the year 2023, involved an Egyptian passenger arriving from Kuwait with knives consisting of 9 daggers and 8 assorted folding knives, along with a scope designed for firearms. The seizure was conducted by customs officers Ahmed Mohamed Abdel Salam and Mohamed Gamal Farag, and by the X-ray inspection department, Ahmed Shaaban and Samah Sayed, under the supervision of Khaled Shaaban, the movement supervisor for the arrival hall in Terminal 2."
Egyptian customs clarified that "the second report, number 152 for the year 2023, was against an Egyptian passenger also arriving from Paris, who possessed 308 capsules of the drug pregabalin, which is classified as a controlled substance. This seizure was conducted by customs officers Mohamed Gamal and Amr Suleiman during the manual inspection, and by the X-ray inspection department, Mohamed Zaghloul and Mahmoud Saad Eldin, head of the department, under the supervision of Khaled Shaaban, the movement supervisor."
Regarding the third report, "number 153 for the year 2023, it involved a foreign passenger arriving from Barcelona on Spanish Airlines who had three small packages containing cocaine. The seizure was made by customs officers Mohamed Gamal Farag and Khaled Abdel Rahman, assigned to the X-ray inspection device, under the supervision of Amr Abdel Aziz Al Aymari, the movement supervisor."
As for the fourth report, "number 154 for the year 2023, against a foreign passenger arriving from Bucharest on Romanian Airlines, who had nine containers with various drugs, which included three boxes containing cakes and sweets mixed with marijuana weighing 600 grams, a cake mixed with the same drug weighing 100 grams, and two cartons with bags containing the same substance. The seizure was made by customs officers Mohamed Gamal in the customs committee, Haitham Al-Damerdash, and Mona Roshdy during the manual inspection, and by the X-ray inspection department, Mohamed Zaghloul and Mohamed Abdel Moneim, head of the department, under the supervision of Ahmed Fathy Abdel Majid, the movement supervisor."
The fifth report, "number 155 for the year 2023, was against an Egyptian passenger arriving from Madinah on Saudi Airlines who attempted to smuggle 120 strips of Solpadeine, a controlled drug, by hiding them inside Panadol medicine boxes. The seizure was made by customs officers Mohamed Gamal, Ahmed Gamal Roshdy, and Ahmed Atef Abdel Fattah, and by the X-ray inspection department, Mahmoud Ramadan, a customs officer under the supervision of Ahmed Fathy, the movement supervisor."
Additionally, "officials from the fourth administration, led by Ahmed Abdel Hadi, the administration manager, and Ahmed Hassan El Hakash, the deputy manager, issued customs seizure report number 150 for the year 2023 against a foreign passenger of Egyptian origin arriving from Paris on French Airlines who attempted to smuggle 139 medical scopes and their accessories. The seizure was conducted by customs officer Ahmed Sabry, stationed at the green line committee, and Hatem Al-Daif during the manual inspection, and by the X-ray inspection department, Al-Barai Muslim and Hani Mustafa, head of the department under the supervision of Ahmed Said Ibrahim, the movement manager. The customs officer Sayed Fouad also participated in the seizure."
Egyptian customs confirmed that "the seizure reports were filed after being presented to Ahmed Saad Abdel Moty, the general director of passenger customs for Terminal 2, and Dr. Magid Mousa, head of the central administration for Cairo International Airport customs, with ongoing oversight from El-Shahat Ghatouri, head of the customs authority, and supported by Dr. Mohamed Maait, the Minister of Finance."
