Lebanese Foreign Ministry Welcomes International Court of Justice Measures

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants welcomed the "temporary measures issued by the International Court of Justice in the case brought by the Republic of South Africa against Israel, aimed at preventing the crime of genocide against Palestinians in Gaza and ensuring compliance with its obligations under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide." In a statement, it called on the United Nations and the international community to "take immediate action to ensure the implementation of these temporary measures to prevent the killing of Palestinians and subjecting them to inhumane living conditions by depriving them of food, water, and medicine, with the aim of pushing them toward forced migration outside the Gaza Strip." The ministry praised the "efforts of the Republic of South Africa," expressing hope that the measures would include an immediate obligation for Israel to cease fire as a first step toward finding a fair and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, in accordance with relevant UN resolutions, based on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, which is the only way to establish security, peace, and prosperity in the Middle East region.
