The Truth About Qalibaf's Withdrawal from the Iranian Presidential Elections

The spokesperson for the campaign of the conservative candidate Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf denied claims that the latter had decided to withdraw from the early presidential election race in Iran.

Mohammad Anvar Bajarzahi, the spokesperson for the campaign, stated to "Baghdad Today" that there is no truth to the information about Qalibaf's intended withdrawal, emphasizing that Qalibaf is continuing with his election campaign.

Bajarzahi considered the media circulating rumors about the withdrawal as entirely false, reaffirming that Qalibaf is active in his campaign efforts. He noted that it is unfortunate that some media outlets and individuals associated with other candidates are spreading rumors about Qalibaf’s withdrawal without respecting professional ethics, which is strongly and officially rejected.

He added, "Qalibaf has no plans to withdraw from the presidential elections, and I hope that the representatives of the esteemed candidates act in ways that enhance public participation in the elections."

Qalibaf is the current Speaker of Parliament and is among the prominent candidates for the upcoming Iranian presidential elections alongside reformist candidate Masoud Pezeshkian.

There are four other candidates from the hardline conservative faction alongside Qalibaf: Saeed Jalili, Ali Reza Zakani, Amir Hossein Ghazizadeh Hashemi, and Mostafa Bur Mohammad.

The fourteenth Iranian presidential elections are scheduled to take place on June 28, following the death of former President Ebrahim Raisi last month in a helicopter crash in northwest Iran.
