Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas signed a decree instructing the necessary arrangements for his and other Palestinian leadership members' visit to the Gaza Strip. The decree outlined several goals for the anticipated visit, including: "Stopping the ongoing aggression in the southern governorates, the complete and immediate withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces, and reaffirming that the State of Palestine has sovereignty over all its territory."
Additionally, it aimed to "restore national unity under the umbrella of the Palestine Liberation Organization as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, and to empower the government to effectively assume its responsibilities across all Palestinian territories, particularly in the areas of relief and reconstruction."
The decree also called for "initiating a political process that begins with Palestine obtaining full membership in the United Nations and implementing the two-state solution according to international legitimacy resolutions and the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice."
Furthermore, the decree stipulated the formation of a preparatory committee to "follow up on the arrangements for the visit to the southern governorates with international and regional parties" and to "conduct a national dialogue with all parties to reach a national vision on all important related issues," as well as to "take political, diplomatic, and legal action and mobilize resources at all Arab, Islamic, and international levels to implement the plan endorsed by the Palestine Liberation Organization."
