After 10 days of the Ukrainian ground incursion into the Russian border region of Kursk, the Ukrainian General Staff released a video on Friday documenting the first hours of the military operation that began on August 6. The video, lasting one and a half minutes, was shared on the "X" platform, stating, "Unique footage of the first hours of the Defense Forces operation in the Kursk region." It shows Ukrainian soldiers demining and breaching Russian defensive lines.
The footage also captures the work of Ukrainian aviation and artillery in Kursk and depicts Ukrainian soldiers capturing several prisoners in the border area. Ukraine confirmed on Thursday that its forces involved in the offensive on Kursk Oblast had gained control over a city, 82 villages, and more than 1,000 square kilometers.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that his forces had fully seized the Russian city of Sudzha. Ukrainian Army Commander Oleksandr Syrskyi announced the establishment of a military administration in the Russian Kursk region, indicating Ukraine's intent to consolidate its presence in the areas it has captured in Russia. During a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky, Syrskyi stated that this administration is tasked with managing the region, ensuring security, and overseeing the logistical matters of Ukrainian forces.
