The Web Summit Qatar 2024 events will kick off next week in Doha, lasting for four days and hosting thousands of entrepreneurs, investors, and technology leaders from around the world to discuss the latest developments in technology and innovation. It is expected that during the summit, which begins on February 26 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center, several new initiatives will be announced aimed at developing the technological business environment in Qatar and opening new avenues to attract international companies looking to expand in the region within this sector.
Sheikh Jassim bin Mansour bin Jaber Al Thani, head of the organizing committee for Web Summit Qatar 2024, affirmed Qatar's readiness to host the first edition of the summit in the Middle East and Africa, stating that the anticipated global event represents an ideal opportunity to showcase Qatar's immense potential to thousands of entrepreneurs, investors, technology stakeholders, and representatives of startups.
He noted the presence of a distinguished group of notable figures, innovators, creatives, and officials from around the world at the summit, including representatives from companies like Amazon, Meta, Google, Shell, Huawei, Snap, TikTok, and Web, as well as several owners and founders of startups, such as Replit, a software development company, reflecting the status Qatar has gained regionally and globally and the trust technology and digital solution leaders worldwide have in attending and actively participating.
This edition of the Web Summit has witnessed wide participation interest, with all ticket categories sold out a week before the start of the event. Organizers had previously announced over two weeks ago that tickets for the partner and startup programs were sold out, and the number of registrants from entrepreneurs, investors, and technology leaders from Qatar, the region, and the world has far exceeded the expected attendance figures.
Regarding startups, thousands applied to participate in the summit, and the event organizers selected 1,100 startups from more than 80 countries, including dozens from Qatar, as well as the United States, Egypt, Brazil, Italy, Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and India. These companies span over 30 sectors and represent the largest participation of startups in Web Summit history.
It is worth noting that hosting the Web Summit for five consecutive years is part of Qatar's ongoing efforts to launch multiple initiatives to enhance the technological business environment in the country, provide incentives for developing the latest technologies, invest in building local technological capabilities, and increase job opportunities in the information and communication technology field, aiming to support the economic diversification goals outlined in Qatar National Vision 2030.
