The Minister of Education and Higher Education in the caretaker government, Abbas Halabi, issued a memo concerning the designation of the Teacher's Day holiday for the academic year 2023/2024 in public and private schools, high schools, institutes, and vocational education centers, as well as the calculation of contract hours for this day in official educational institutions.
The memo stated: "Based on the provisions of Decree No. 8376 dated 10/9/2021 (formation of the government), based on the provisions of Decree No. 2089 dated 18/10/1971 (determination of actual teaching days) and its amendments, based on Decision No. 1460/M/2010 dated 7/10/2010 (determining school holidays in official schools of all types and stages), and since Teacher's Day for the academic year 2023/2024 falls on Saturday, March 9, 2024, which is a weekly holiday in many public and private schools, high schools, institutes, and vocational education centers, as well as in schools approved for non-Lebanese students in afternoon shifts."
The memo added: "All public and private schools, high schools, institutes, and vocational education centers, as well as schools approved for non-Lebanese students in afternoon shifts, will be closed on Monday, March 11, 2024, in celebration of Teacher's Day."
The memo continued: "Teaching hours for contract teachers of various designations in official primary, secondary, and vocational technical education will be calculated in favor of contract instructors on this occasion, honoring their efforts and commemorating them for Teacher's Day, similar to previous years, and working based on the approval of the Minister of Finance No. 6621 dated 15/4/2015 regarding the letter from the Minister of Education and Higher Education requesting that official schools, high schools, vocational education centers, and schools for non-Lebanese students in afternoon shifts be included in the tables that organize teaching hours in contracts for March, corresponding to each of the contractors, and in accordance with what they were supposed to teach had the closure not taken place for this occasion."
In conclusion, the Minister of Education and Higher Education extended his warmest greetings to all teachers in both public and private sectors, wishing them continued health and well-being so that they can continue to fulfill their noble mission in building generations that are a fundamental pillar in the construction of the homeland we aspire to, while highly appreciating their efforts during this challenging period to fulfill the required national role.
