Video: Heavy Rains Claim 50 Lives in Central China

In China, it was reported that 50 people have died and 15 others are missing as of Monday evening, due to Typhoon "Gaemi" in the city of Cicheng in Hunan province. The Chinese news agency "Xinhua" stated: "Since late July, rainstorms caused by Typhoon 'Gaemi' have severely affected Cicheng city, leading to flash floods and landslides." According to the Chen Zhou headquarters for rescue, restoration, and reconstruction efforts in Cicheng, 128,000 people have been affected, and 11,869 homes and buildings have collapsed. Electricity, roads, and communications in the villages have been cut off. All administrative villages in the affected areas of Cicheng have preliminarily regained access to roads, electricity, communications, and water, and efforts for rescue and reconstruction after the disaster are currently ongoing.

Before hitting China, Typhoon "Gaemi" had struck the Philippines and Taiwan. Landslides and floods have claimed hundreds of lives elsewhere in Asia this summer, including more than 200 deaths due to a severe storm in southern India at the end of July.
