Lebanon Pays the Price of the "Support Front": Destruction, Displacement, and Fear for the Future

Lebanon Pays the Price of the

The only constant in the aftermath of the "support" war initiated by "Hezbollah" on October 8 to assist the Gaza sector is the economic and human losses suffered by southern Lebanon. Meanwhile, the political outcomes remain unclear, despite "Hezbollah" asserting that it has eased pressure on the sector and will not halt the war in the south until the conflict in Gaza stops, claiming that the war has imposed "pressures" on Israel.

The conflict has led to the displacement of tens of thousands from northern areas and has halted agricultural and industrial activities along the border with Lebanon. The invasion of Gaza has not been delayed due to the support operations carried out by Hezbollah from the south. On the contrary, it may have driven the Israeli war machine to utilize larger types of weapons to ensure the army advances in areas where Hamas is stationed and to ensure the destruction of tunnels and anything that obstructs its path.

In Lebanon, more than 530 fatalities and 2,180 injuries have been documented, alongside approximately 100,000 displaced individuals from border towns. Lebanese government institutions estimate that there are 1,900 completely destroyed housing units, 1,500 housing units severely damaged, and 5,600 housing units with minor damage. The war has also affected 220 industrial and commercial establishments, and farmers have been prevented from cultivating 17 million square meters of agricultural land.

Agricultural losses have amounted to damage over 3 million and 200 thousand square meters affected by fires, impacting olive orchards, citrus groves, and forested areas. As for "Hezbollah," the human losses have approached 404 fighters, including three prominent leaders, most notably the central military commander Fouad Shukr.
