Russia: New Technology to Increase Oil and Gas Production

The press office of the Ministry of Industry and Energy in the Saratov region announced that engineers from the engineering and technical center in the city of Engels have developed a technology that allows for the intensification of oil and gas extraction. The office noted that "the innovative technology was successfully tested in the most complex gas condensate field in the Orenburg region."

According to the ministry's statement: "Engineers from the 'Frakjet-Volga' engineering and technical center in the city of Engels, Saratov region, have invented a technology to intensify oil and gas production, successfully tested in the Astrakhan field, one of the most complex fields in the world, where the depth of the gas-containing layer reaches approximately 4000 meters, as well as in the Orenburg gas condensate field."

It is worth noting that the testing of the new technology demonstrated an increase in oil extraction in eight wells by amounts ranging from 1.7 to 3.97 times. According to a source in the ministry, the acid jet drilling technology addresses the challenge of increasing the flow of hydrocarbons in an open unlined well, where additional lateral wells are created using flexible pipes and pumping tubes in the compressor. The injection of the acid composition through the pipe at high pressure fractures the rock under the influence of the kinetic energy of the fluid and chemical reaction. This technology allows for the exploitation of previously unused areas in the production process.
