Lapid: Israel Must Keep Hezbollah Away from the Border

Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid commented on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's announcement to dissolve the wartime government, stating, "Instead of dissolving the wartime government, the government itself should be dissolved." After Netanyahu informed ministers in a session of the security cabinet about the dissolution of the wartime government, Lapid wrote on his X platform account: "Instead of dissolving the wartime government, the government itself should be dissolved."

In another post regarding the recruitment exemption law, Lapid stated, "Tomorrow the Foreign Affairs and Security Committee will begin discussions on the draft law for evasion and refusal," indicating that "this is a betrayal of the fighters, a betrayal of the reserve soldiers, a betrayal of the Israeli middle class, and a betrayal of the Israeli army. The Israeli government undermines the security of the state. Netanyahu and his smile are selling out our fighters."

On another note, Lapid said, "Israel must keep Hezbollah away from the border, whether through a political settlement or a military operation." Netanyahu's decision comes after a week following the resignation of ministers Benny Gantz and Gadi Eizenkot from the government due to "Netanyahu's failure to formulate a strategy for the Gaza war."

Subsequently, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich demanded to join the government in place of the resigned ministers. Following Gantz's resignation, the Americans pressured Netanyahu not to dissolve the wartime government, viewing it as more moderate and less likely to make extreme decisions.
