Portuguese national football team player Cristiano Ronaldo confirmed his readiness to compete in the UEFA Euro 2024, which kicks off today in Germany, marking the sixth time in his career. Ronaldo stated upon the team’s arrival at their accommodation in Marienfeld: "I have prepared myself for this tournament. We have five days until our first match, and our start must be good."
Portugal, the winners of Euro 2016, will begin the tournament on Tuesday against the Czech Republic, followed by matches against Turkey and Georgia, the newcomer to the tournament, in Group Six. Ronaldo added: "You always feel that sting in your stomach, especially the day before the match or on the day itself. I am happy to feel this; when I don't feel it, it would be better for me to give up and stop. We are ready."
Ronaldo expressed his admiration for the fans' welcome of the team upon their arrival in Germany for Euro 2024, saying: "It is wonderful; it feels like we are in Portugal. The reception has been beautiful, from the moment we arrived at the airport until coming here, the roads were filled with Portuguese fans." According to the police, nearly 6,000 fans welcomed the team, and the bus transporting them from Münster/Osnabrück Airport to the hotel was escorted by a convoy of 400 motorcycles.
Roberto Martinez, the head coach of the Portuguese team, commented: "Amazing. In the Portuguese language I know, there is no word that describes this reception. Arriving at the airport was filled with passion and Portuguese colors. Now, at the hotel, it's even more special." However, according to the police, two fans were arrested after attempting to enter the team's accommodation that evening, and reports indicate they are now being questioned regarding charges of trespassing.
