The media office of caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati responded to Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea, stating: "In his press conference today, the leader of the Lebanese Forces made a series of statements that reached the point of accusing the government of committing high treason regarding what is happening in the south. While Dr. Geagea and others have the right to express their opinions and perform their oppositional role, this does not mean in any way that it is acceptable for him to issue unfounded judgments and use terms that may have lost their legal and constitutional meaning, especially since he is aware of many facts, including those resulting from previous accumulations for which the current government is not responsible."
The media office added in a statement, "If what Dr. Geagea considers an easy-to-implement solution, away from media statements, let him candidly explain to the people why what he said was not executed and why the unresolved issues have lingered for years? Theorizing from a distance and from a height, despite knowing the delicate circumstances in which the government operates and the facts not hidden from anyone, is the height of slander and injustice."
The statement continued: "The government is doing everything required to overcome the difficulties and has not fallen short in any matter related to any file, particularly with regard to finding a solution to the situation in the south and addressing its direct and indirect repercussions. All political leaders, whether supporters or opponents, must cooperate and stand together to navigate through this difficult period, instead of repeating statements and accusations that serve no purpose other than deepening the divide among the Lebanese and exacerbating disagreements without reaching a solution."
