The "Dasha of the Dhows" ceremony for the tenth edition of the Sinyar Festival 2024 will commence at dawn next Thursday from the Old Doha Port. The organizing committee announced that the "Dasha of the Dhows" will start at 3 AM on Thursday, gathering at Al Bandar in the Sealine area, with the participation of 850 sailors and participants, including 82 from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and 80 residents of the country, representing 75 teams.
The committee mentioned that the "Qaffal" celebration will take place at Katara Beach at 5 PM on Saturday, May 4. The Sinyar Festival 2024 enjoys the sponsorship of the Social and Sports Activities Support Fund (Da’am), along with various entities and companies contributing to the festival.
The competitions among the participating teams will start from 4:30 AM until 6 PM, where ten winning teams will qualify for the "Belmsan" championship, which will be held in open waters with its own conditions, regulations, and special prizes.
Additionally, the organizing committee for the Sinyar Festival 2024 is continuing its inspection of the participating dhows to ensure they meet all conditions, including the necessary sailing licenses, and checking all logistical aspects and supplies, as well as confirming that the dhows are insured by one of the accredited insurance companies in the country. Safety measures will require the presence of life jackets, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and other safety necessities on board, along with installing tracking cameras at the front of each dhow to ensure the safety of the participating teams and dhows, avoid potential risks, and guarantee transparency, integrity, and compliance with competition conditions.
The organizing committee held an informational meeting for the sailors participating in the tenth edition of the festival, providing necessary guidelines and instructions related to adherence to the tournament's schedule, departure times for the "Dasha" and conclusion times for the "Qaffal," and ensuring compliance with required conditions, with a review of the penalties list to avoid any team facing deductions or penalties that could lead to disqualification from the competition. There was also a detailed explanation of the general instructions for the competition, its conditions, the types of permitted fish to catch, the point scoring method, and clarification of the championship location.
It is noted that the festival management has allocated valuable prizes for the winning teams, with the first-place winner receiving one million Qatari Rials, the second-place winner receiving 500,000 Qatari Rials, and the third-place winner receiving 300,000 Qatari Rials.
