Information continues to emerge about Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's advisor, Luna al-Shibl, who was involved in a serious car accident on Tuesday and is currently hospitalized in critical condition. Syrian reports indicate that the car Luna al-Shibl was driving at the time of the accident belonged to her husband. It was noted that Luna al-Shibl and her husband had planned to travel to Sochi, and it was revealed that her husband was arrested while traveling to Sochi last week. The reports also state that Luna al-Shibl's brother was arrested in Damascus a week prior. On Tuesday, the Syrian presidency clarified to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) details concerning the health condition of advisor Luna al-Shibl following the car accident.
The political and media office of the presidency informed SANA that "the special advisor to the presidency, Luna al-Shibl, was involved in a car accident on one of the roads leading to the city of Damascus on Tuesday afternoon." The office added that the incident "resulted in the car she was riding swerving off the road." The clarification continued that al-Shibl "sustained several impacts leading to severe injuries, after which she was transported to a hospital in Damascus." It concluded by stating, "it was found that there was bleeding in the head, which necessitated her admission to intensive care for treatment by the specialized medical team." The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported to "Sky News Arabia" that Luna al-Shibl was taken to al-Shami Hospital in Damascus and described her condition as "critical." The observatory quoted sources as saying another vehicle collided with Luna al-Shibl's car, resulting in her car going off-road, and regime forces arrested the driver, taking him to a security center for interrogation. It is noteworthy that Luna al-Shibl is a Syrian media figure born in Sweida in 1975. Since 2020, she has held the position of "special advisor to the Syrian presidency."
