Title: Al-Safadi: Assassination of Haniya Violates International Law

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Al-Safadi stated that "the assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniya is an escalatory crime that represents a clear violation of international law, a clear breach of state sovereignty, and will lead to further escalation, threatening to expand the war regionally, which will negatively impact not only security and peace in our region but will also threaten international security and peace." Al-Safadi emphasized Jordan's position that "efforts must be made collectively to reduce tensions, but the first step to de-escalation is ending the cause of the escalation, which is the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza primarily, and the continuation of illegal Israeli measures that undermine all chances of achieving peace in the region in the West Bank secondly, creating conditions that threaten the expansion of war through also violating Lebanese sovereignty." During a press conference held at the Foreign Ministry today, Thursday, with Luxembourg's Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs Xavier Bettel, Al-Safadi stated that the future of the region must not be at the mercy of the crude revenge of the Israeli Prime Minister. Al-Safadi pointed out that "the situation is rolling towards the abyss," condemning "the violation of Lebanese sovereignty."
