In a very difficult and tense Arab reality on all levels, the Secretary-General of the Arab League made some important statements regarding the Gaza war, plans for displacement, the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam crisis, and Joe Biden's withdrawal from the U.S. presidential election.
The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, during an interview on the program "Happening in Egypt" aired on MBC Egypt, stated that Egypt thwarted the plans for "transfer" or the displacement of Palestinians to Sinai, which it anticipated from the beginning. He highlighted the matter to the world and announced Egypt’s firm rejection of the plan, even temporarily, linking it to the elimination of the Palestinian cause altogether.
Aboul Gheit emphasized that the major powers in the Arab world, led by Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and other active countries, are capable of influencing and putting pressure on regional issues and can say "no" to the world, as they recognize that there is a fundamental threat to the concept of the Middle East and the notion of Arab influence within it.
Regarding reconciliation among Palestinian factions, specifically between Fatah and Hamas, Aboul Gheit said that the Palestinian people must decide that they will not continue to accept the current situation, and a new situation must emerge with a new generation of leadership.
As for the war in Gaza, Aboul Gheit stated that there is no winner; literally speaking, to lose a war means that an opponent must surrender, and Hamas has not surrendered yet. On the other hand, Israel has inflicted significant destruction on the Gaza Strip but has not achieved its imposed will despite all this destruction.
Regarding the current situation in the Arab world, he mentioned that it is very difficult, with countries threatened with dissolution and suffering from internal divisions.
On the American front, the Secretary-General of the Arab League expressed he was not surprised by Biden's withdrawal from the presidential race, noting that he met Biden in September of last year and observed signs indicating that he could not continue long in the presidency.
Aboul Gheit added, “He appeared distracted and his speech was incoherent; it was his wife who led the discussion and conversation.” He then mentioned, “After that, I anticipated the change and informed my assistants that we would witness a shift in the American elections.”
Aboul Gheit also addressed the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam crisis, stating that there is a threat to the Nile waters in Egypt and Sudan due to the Ethiopian dam. He expressed his astonishment at the lack of concern from the international community and its failure to support Egypt when it referred the matter to the Security Council, describing it as "troubling," and questioned, "Should we resort to armed conflict for the world to pay attention?"
