IMF Paves the Way for $2.2 Billion Disbursement to Ukraine

The International Monetary Fund announced that it "has reached an agreement with the Ukrainian government regarding the fourth review of the current assistance program aimed at supporting the war-torn country, which paves the way for the disbursement of an additional $2.2 billion." The organization indicated in a statement that "the agreement must now receive approval from the Fund's Board of Directors, which is expected to meet in the coming weeks." This is the fourth tranche of a significant aid program valued at $15.6 billion, adopted in March 2023 as part of a major international assistance plan totaling $122 billion. The previous review was recent and was conducted just two months ago, allowing for the disbursement of $880 million. The Fund reiterated that "the performance remains strong under the program, despite the challenges posed by the ongoing conflict" since the outbreak of the Russo-Ukrainian War in February 2022. After a sharp recession in 2022 due to the war, the Ukrainian economy is expected to grow by 3.2% this year, according to the latest IMF forecasts.
