One witness heard her screaming and tried to intervene, causing Johnston to stop momentarily before returning with a knife, threatening to end her life.
The wife sustained visible bruises on her neck from the assault and sent messages to her friends requesting help, calling the police and saying, "My husband is trying to kill me."
