The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani, emphasized today, Tuesday, the necessity of creating a fund to support the Gaza Strip following the Israeli war. In a speech during the emergency humanitarian response conference in Gaza, held in Jordan, the Prime Minister stated, "We gather today to determine ways to enhance and coordinate the international community's response to the humanitarian disaster that continues to expand due to the aggression on Gaza."
He added that "the aggression on Gaza has revealed the fragility of the international system and its failure to fulfill its duties and responsibilities amid the campaign of cleansing and genocide, and the clear violations of all laws and conventions, alongside the horrific human rights violations by the Israeli occupation authorities."
He noted that "the number of victims has become terrifying; we count them as martyrs before God. With this indisputable evidence of the brutality of what is happening, we find that the world stands helpless, hiding behind timid positions that do not meet even the lowest thresholds of responsibility."
He pointed out that "the barbarity of the aggression has exacerbated the humanitarian and economic situation throughout the Gaza Strip, which is fundamentally suffering from economic problems due to ongoing occupation violations. The percentage of internally displaced persons in the Gaza Strip has exceeded eighty percent of its total population of approximately two million three hundred thousand people."
He indicated that "500,000 workers have lost their jobs due to the war, and today this aggression has led to the destruction of three hundred seventy thousand housing units in Gaza and damaged more than fifty-three percent of water and sewage facilities, out of more than six hundred facilities."
He explained that "the infrastructure for education has been deliberately destroyed, with hundreds of schools and universities demolished, and the number of students who lost their school seats has doubled, with eighty-two percent of schools out of service, depriving approximately six hundred twenty-five thousand students of education at all levels."
He pointed out that "the health sector has not been far from the brutal attacks of the Israeli occupation; the world witnessed live bombardments on hospitals and the massacres committed against doctors, health staff, and hospitalized patients."
He added that "the Zionist crimes have been classified as condemning the occupying authority under international laws, violating human rights, committing war crimes and genocide, and crimes against humanity, involving killings, starvation, and displacement of the Palestinian people, which has worsened their suffering due to a lack of food and medicine, as well as the loss of drinking water and fuel, after the occupation tightly closed the crossings and prevented aid from entering."
Al-Sudani reiterated "the initiative launched by Iraq at the (Peace Conference 2023), which was held in Cairo in October of last year, which included the establishment of a fund to support Gaza after the aggression, and to implement a studied assessment that identifies needs and systematically divides commitments among participating countries."
