In a development regarding the slap incident, the lawyer of Egyptian singer Amr Diab announced that he has filed a complaint against the young man (S.A), the main figure in the incident, accusing him of inappropriate handling. This comes as the investigation authorities began looking into the matter. The investigation listened to the statements of Amr Diab's lawyer after he filed a report at the police station against the young man who slapped him while trying to take a selfie with him at a party in a Cairo hotel.
Amr Diab's lawyer stated before the investigation that his client was harmed by the way the young man attempted to grab him from behind and forcefully put his mobile phone in his face to compel him to take a picture inappropriately, according to the Cairo 24 website. He added that his client welcomes any fan and does not refuse anyone who wants to take pictures with him, noting that the young man was not invited to the wedding party and had attempted to do the same with other artists.
The lawyer mentioned that the young man took pictures and videos with Amr Diab five times amidst the crowd, but then the artist was surprised when the young man pulled at his clothes to force him to take a picture, leading the artist to believe he was trying to assault him, prompting him to slap him to push him away.
When questioned about the young man's attempt to assault Amr Diab, the lawyer stated, "No, but the way he held onto the suit and pressed against him made him think he was trying to assault him or hit him, which is what prompted him to defend himself." The lawyer accused the fan of "disturbing the peace and defaming his client on social media in an attempt to gain fame," revealing that "we contacted him after the incident to smooth things over, but he did not accept that."
He pointed out that the fan had attracted the attention of artist Mohamed Ramadan in the same way, emphasizing that some individuals' excessive enthusiasm has reached a point where they cross the boundaries of proper etiquette when approaching celebrities, according to Akhbar Al-Youm.
The investigation also heard the statements of the young man, the victim of the slap by Amr Diab during his attempt to take a picture with him at the wedding party, in the presence of both the singer's lawyer and the young man's defense.
In a related context, a witness revealed that the young man took videos and selfies with Amr Diab, who warmly welcomed him and allowed several fans to take pictures with him during the wedding. The witness stated that the fan returned to take pictures but was asked by Amr Diab to stop and give others a chance. However, he insisted and grabbed the singer’s clothes, causing the artist to lose his temper and slap him, according to Al Arabiya.
For his part, the young man's father stated that he had not seen the video but learned about the incident from relatives in Luxor province and decided to file a complaint against Amr Diab. He defended his son, asserting that he did nothing wrong in trying to take a picture with a singer he grew up listening to, and was surprised by the insult.
