The Department of Economic Development - Abu Dhabi announced on Friday the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Broaden Energy, which specializes in hydrogen energy solutions, to establish the first industrial complex for the development and manufacturing of hydrogen energy equipment in Abu Dhabi. The complex aims to support the goals of Abu Dhabi's industrial strategy and enhance the value chain for the hydrogen energy sector, thereby supporting sustainability efforts through innovative solutions, which will help position Abu Dhabi as the most competitive industrial hub in the region.
The new industrial complex, with an investment value of AED 1 billion, represents a significant addition to the hydrogen economy, creating more job opportunities in the industrial sector, stimulating innovative solutions in the industry, and supporting economic development. The department and the company will collaborate to ensure that the project aligns with the UAE's Climate Neutrality Strategy 2050 and the National Hydrogen Strategy, which aims to elevate the country’s status among the top 10 hydrogen producers globally by 2031, with a production capacity of up to 1.4 million tons annually. The UAE is also working on establishing hydrogen hubs to accelerate its adoption as an alternative fuel in the industrial sector, enhance supply chains, and enable infrastructure to attract more global companies.
Engineer Arafat Al-Yafai, Executive Director of the Industry Development Office, the department's arm for developing and regulating the industrial sector, stated: "We are pleased to collaborate and contribute to the establishment of this advanced manufacturing facility, which represents an important step towards achieving our vision for the development of the industrial sector in Abu Dhabi. The hydrogen industrial complex supports our efforts in fulfilling the UAE's Climate Neutrality Strategy 2050 through the development of innovative solutions."
Meanwhile, Adnan Sukoliga, CEO of the company, said: "The establishment of the first hydrogen equipment manufacturing complex in Abu Dhabi reaffirms our commitment to enhancing renewable energy capabilities and supporting the strategic vision of the UAE in this field." Under the agreement, both parties will exchange knowledge and research, focusing on renewable energy and green hydrogen technologies. This partnership is part of efforts to develop the industrial sector in Abu Dhabi, stimulate innovation, accelerate the adoption of clean energy solutions, and encourage efforts to combat climate change.
