The Novosibirsk State University has announced that it is working on a project to develop a new generation of small satellites. Regarding this matter, the university's president, Mikhail Fedoruk, stated: "Scientists at our advanced engineering college have begun producing a set of small satellites, four of which will be ready by the end of this year." Fedoruk noted that the university is enhancing its capabilities in the aerospace industry and is the main executor of the Griffin project, which is part of the federal Sphere project overseen by the Russian space agency, Roscosmos. The university is responsible for designing, assembling, and testing the satellites.
The Advanced Engineering College at Novosibirsk State University was established in 2022 as part of a Russian government program to create new engineering colleges in universities, and it focuses on various scientific fields such as biomedical engineering, oil and gas technologies, aviation devices, optics, and sensors, among others. In recent years, several Russian universities have been developing new technologies in the space industry; for instance, the National Research Nuclear University contributed to the development of Svyatobor-1, which is designed for monitoring natural disasters and wildfires.
