UEFA Unveils New Champions League Anthem

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has revealed the new version of the Champions League anthem. Okko Sport reported via their Telegram account that the electronic portion of the melody has been altered, while the new version focuses more on the human vocal element. Since its introduction in 1992, the Champions League anthem has held a prominent place among football fans, with supporters eagerly awaiting its sound before each match in the tournament.

The anthem was composed by Tony Britten, a graduate of the Royal College of Music, in the style of the famous 18th-century composer George Frideric Handel. It is performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and sung by the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, both based in London. The lyrics of the anthem are a mix of the three official languages of UEFA: English, French, and German.

Changes will be implemented in the Champions League format starting from the 2024-2025 season, when 36 clubs will participate in the tournament. Instead of competing in a group stage, there will be a single phase where each team will play eight matches against different opponents — four at home and four away. The draw for the new season is scheduled for August 29.
