Biden Confirms Intent to Debate Trump Again

U.S. President Joe Biden confirmed on Monday evening his intention to participate in a second debate with his Republican opponent in the upcoming presidential election, Donald Trump, "in September" after their first debate that took place at the end of June, where his performance was disastrous. Biden stated in an interview with NBC, "I will debate him at the time we agreed to in September."

The Biden and Trump campaigns had agreed to hold two debates, the first of which took place in Atlanta in June, where Biden's performance was poor. Following that debate, many questioned whether Biden would participate again, amid growing calls from Democratic supporters for him to withdraw from the presidential race. Biden faces these calls amid concerns about his mental fitness, raised by his performance during the debate when he struggled to complete sentences or convey coherent ideas.

During his interview with NBC, Biden underscored the "legitimacy" of growing concerns about his age. He noted, "I understand why people say (Oh my God, he’s 81 years old. How will he be when he’s 83 or 84?). That is a legitimate question."

Biden: "I don't know if shooting Trump will change the course of the election."

On Monday, the Republican Party officially nominated Donald Trump for the presidency in opposition to President Biden, who is seeking a second term in the November elections. Trump garnered enough delegate votes at the Republican National Convention, which the former president attended in his first public appearance since his assassination attempt. The convention also officially nominated James David Vance as his vice presidential candidate.
