An investigation by the Israeli newspaper "Haaretz" revealed that the army used Palestinian detainees from Gaza as human shields for a week. The newspaper reported that the Israeli army employs Palestinians as human shields to search tunnels and buildings in Gaza, with the knowledge of senior army officers.
The report indicated that "the use of civilians as human shields occurs throughout the Gaza Strip with the awareness of the Chief of Staff's Office, Hertz Haliwi."
Israeli soldiers told "Haaretz," "Our lives are more important than the lives of Palestinian civilians, and it's better for us to stay alive even if they die." The newspaper also highlighted that among those used by the army as human shields were minors and the elderly.
