A significant sorrow has enveloped the Mazaghran area in the Mostaganem province (340 km west of Algeria's capital) following the death of a boy who succumbed to injuries from a sheep's goring on Eid day. This incident occurred while the boy attempted to assist his grandfather in slaughtering the sacrificial animal on the morning of Eid al-Adha, when the ram unexpectedly gored him, knocking him to the ground.
Despite efforts to save him by transporting him quickly to the hospital, the 15-year-old boy passed away on the way. The incident has caused great sadness among the local residents, as the victim was the only child of his mother, and it happened on a day that was meant to be filled with joy for the family, coinciding with the Eid celebrations.
Dozens of neighbors and community members visited the family to offer their condolences over the loss of the son, amidst a very somber atmosphere, especially since the son was known to have helped his grandfather with the sacrifice in previous years, according to testimonies from close acquaintances of the family.
On social media, many Algerians reacted to the incident, expressing that it had turned their Eid celebrations into sorrow. One individual remarked, "The worst part of the incident is that it came at a time when the Islamic community should be rejoicing in their Eid," while another commented, "The heart of the mother must surely be breaking due to this immense tragedy." Others urged for increased caution during the ritual slaughter, emphasizing the need to take all necessary precautions to prevent such occurrences.
It is noteworthy that many similar incidents occur every year during Eid al-Adha, whether from ram goring or the use of sharp slaughtering tools.
