Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has directed the engineering authority of the armed forces to quickly restore the tomb of Sheikh Mohamed Metwali El-Shaarawy after it was flooded. Earlier, the shrine of Imam Mohamed Metwali El-Shaarawy in the village of Dakadous, which is part of the Mit Ghamr district in Dakahlia Governorate, experienced a leakage of sewage water into the shrine due to the shutdown of the village's sewage treatment plant.
Visitors to the shrine were surprised by the sudden overflow of sewage water, and workers and citizens attempted to pump it out. Haj Saeed, one of the officials in charge of the El-Shaarawy complex and shrine, mentioned that they were caught off guard by the sewage water reaching a height of about 6 cm, and there was an immediate response from citizens and workers to remove the water from within the shrine. He added that the cause was the closure of the sewage treatment plant, which caused the water to overflow and enter both the shrine and nearby houses, and efforts to manage the situation are being undertaken independently.
