Residents of an Algerian province woke up to a horrific crime as a man stabbed his wife in the neck and throat at her workplace in front of everyone. Three stab wounds left her between life and death. The details of the horrific incident reveal that the victim, a woman and mother of three children, had just returned to work after a family holiday, but her husband refused to let her resume her job, threatening to kill her if she did not comply.
However, according to local residents, the victim returned to her job as an employee in the civil status department at the municipality of Oukass in Bejaia (259 km east of Algiers) and began her work as usual. On that morning, she contacted the police to report the threat she had received, prompting a security force to be dispatched to the municipality.
At around 2 PM, the woman's husband arrived at the municipality and stabbed her three times in the abdomen and twice in the neck, ultimately killing her in front of employees and citizens, causing widespread panic and fear. The victim is now in intensive care, fighting for her life.
In response to the tragedy, municipal workers organized protests, joined by local residents to denounce what happened and express solidarity with their colleague. Protesters raised slogans including "Violence has no place in our society," and "We are all Malika," among others.
