The teachers' contract workers movement announced that it is following "the developments regarding the reconsideration of wages and salaries and the recent meetings held for that purpose, which included the Prime Minister, the Minister of Finance, the Chairperson of the Civil Service Council, and the Director General of the Ministry of Finance. These meetings aimed to find a formula for increasing salaries that aligns with inflation, the cost of living, and rising taxes. The ideas proposed revolved around granting two additional months starting from October, and one or two months at the beginning of 2025 as an increase to the 2019 salaries for public sector employees."
In a statement, the movement said, "While endorsing this demand, which must definitely include all contractors, it must clarify to the esteemed Prime Minister, Minister of Finance, Minister of Education, and Chairperson of the Council of Service that a two-month salary increase for employees amounts to an increase of about 200,000 Lebanese pounds for each contracted hour, which is insufficient in light of the state's rising taxes, inflation, and the cost of living. Therefore, the movement demands at least a 700,000 Lebanese pounds increase for each contracted hour, reminding that failure to include contractors in this decision will lead all contractors to declare a general and open strike as soon as the Council of Ministers makes such a decision without considering a raise for contractors." The statement concluded by hinting at a general and open strike if their demands are not met.
