Iraq: "Submarine Cable" to Increase Internet Capacity!

The Iraqi Ministry of Communications signed a contract for the establishment of a submarine cable project with Saudi Telecom Company to increase internet capacities in Iraq. Iraqi Communications Minister Hiam Al-Yasiri stated that "this contract is the third of its kind signed by the current Iraqi government." In a press conference, she said, "After signing this contract, procedures will begin for the site survey in the waters and the mobilization of the necessary ships, followed by the installation of the cable at the Al-Faw station, which will be used to market internet capacities and increase incoming internet capacities to Iraq." Omar Al-Amri, Director General of the Relations and Media Department at the Iraqi Ministry of Communications, stated, "Many global companies will pass their capacities through submarine and terrestrial optical cables, which will help facilitate international communication and connect African and Asian countries to Europe via Iraq." He confirmed that such projects would have a "positive economic return for Iraq by activating and investing its geographic location."
