The Egyptian Court of Cassation decided to uphold the death sentence for the defendants, Judge Ayman Abdel Fattah and Hassan Al-Gharably, for their involvement in the murder of media figure Shaima Gamal and burying her inside a farm in the Badrshein area. The Criminal Court's prosecution had previously revealed its opinion on the appeal submitted by Ayman Hajjag, convicted of killing the media figure Shaima Gamal, after the Giza Criminal Court issued a death sentence for Ayman Hajjag and his friend Hussein Al-Gharably, who were accused of murdering Shaima Gamal, binding her with iron chains, and burying her in a pit at the farm in Badrshein, following the Mufti's opinion regarding their execution.
The Criminal Prosecution indicated that the contested ruling had clarified the incident in its account. The court's conviction was based on evidence, investigations, and proceedings from the trial, compiled in a report by the accused Ayman Hajjag on June 21, 2022, regarding the disappearance of his wife, Shaima Gamal, a broadcaster for the Al-Hadath channel, after he left her in front of the Al-Morshedi mall in the First October Police Station area without accusing anyone of wrongdoing.
It continued: "On June 26, 2022, the second accused, Hussein Ibrahim, appeared and stated that he had information about the murder of the media figure Shaima Gamal, explaining that he had known Ayman Hajjag for nearly twenty years, and that he had repeatedly complained to him about his wife's stubbornness and her threats to expose their marriage and inform his workplace of certain grievances. He stated that she demanded three million Egyptian pounds in exchange for a divorce and to stop bothering him. He intended to get rid of her and they agreed to kill her and bury her."
The prosecution added: "The second accused rented a farm in his name, where they executed this plan and repaired the farm with funding from the judge. They purchased digging tools, such as a pickaxe, shovel, and closing mechanisms for carrying soil, caustic soda bottles, and chains, along with two locks. On June 20, 2022, the husband of the media figure, Shaima Gamal, brought her to the farm, claiming he intended to write it in her name if she liked it, where the second accused awaited their arrival."
It further stated: "Once they entered the room of the farm, the first accused grabbed the victim by the scarf she was wearing around her neck and struck her with the back of his firearm on the front of her head, causing her to fall. He then mounted her, pressing his knee and hand on her face, muffling her mouth and stifling her breath. Upon seeing this, the second accused was called for help, grabbed her legs, and tied them with a piece of cloth. The first accused continued to suffocate her until her movement ceased completely. When he confirmed that she had died, he removed the gold jewelry she was wearing, securely bound her body with chains, dragged her to the judge's car, and then went to the pit they had prepared for her burial, placing the victim's body there."
