Iraq: Tight Security Plan to Protect the Hussainiyah Shrine

The "Hussainiyah Shrine" in Iraq announced the deployment of 7,000 personnel to organize the movement of visitors during the ceremonies commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussein on the 10th of Muharram. This year, the 10th of Muharram falls on Wednesday, when the city of Karbala is expected to witness tens of thousands of visitors commemorating the Day of Ashura.

Alaa Al-Anbaki, the assistant head of the order maintenance department at the "Hussainiyah Shrine," stated in a press release from the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that his department has developed a special plan for the ceremonies on the 10th of Muharram to organize and manage the influx of visitors to the shrine of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).

Al-Anbaki added that the plan includes deploying 1,000 employees from the Hussainiyah Shrine, in addition to 6,000 volunteers to facilitate visitor movement, along with the use of the latest surveillance cameras to secure the roads and areas surrounding the Hussainiyah compound.

He continued, stating that "the cameras will not only secure the visit but will also be used to analyze the distribution of visitors." He confirmed the existence of special jamming systems to prevent unauthorized drone flights, pointing out that there is a high level of coordination between the two holy shrines, Hussainiyah and Abbasiyah, and other security agencies in the governorate to implement the plan effectively.
