The family of Israeli hostage Daniela Gilboa, who was captured at the Nahal Oz base on October 7, 2023, agreed today, Tuesday, to release a video made by Hamas last January. In the video, Daniela strongly criticized the Israeli government, asking: "Where were you on October 7 when I was taken from my bed? Where are you now? Why do I feel, as a soldier who dedicated 100% of herself to the homeland and served in a tough role in the Gaza border, that I have been abandoned and left by you? Gather your strength, my dear government, and start working correctly to bring us all home, as long as we are alive."
She continued: "I don't need any food, money, clothes, or anything, just to be brought home alive. And you, my family, I miss you so much and love you. Mom, Dad, Nuni, Rouaiko, I ask you to be strong and do everything you can to bring me home while I am still alive."
The video of captive Daniela Gilboa, which her family permitted to be published, records her demands for her release and accuses Netanyahu's government of abandoning her.
It remains uncertain, months after the recorded video, whether the young hostage is still alive, given the devastation in the Gaza Strip.
Recently, Israel has experienced a wave of intense anger, especially from families of hostages held by Hamas. Thousands of Israelis protested last weekend in Tel Aviv and other locations against Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, demanding an immediate prisoner exchange amid ongoing negotiations between Israel and the group for a ceasefire.
Out of 251 people abducted during the attack, 116 are still held as hostages in Gaza, of which 42 have died, according to the Israeli army. Netanyahu responded by pledging to eliminate Hamas, and the Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip has so far resulted in at least 38,193 deaths, the majority of whom are civilians, according to the health ministry in Hamas' government.
