As part of "Operation Al-Faris Al-Shaham 3," a memorandum of understanding was signed with the municipality of Khan Younis to repair water lines and conduct emergency maintenance on water networks in various areas of the city, aimed at alleviating citizens' suffering and enabling the municipality to provide infrastructure services with the resources available through this project.
This memorandum is part of the United Arab Emirates' efforts to find urgent humanitarian solutions for the Khan Younis municipality and to fund the reactivation of water wells and reservoirs in the city, many of which have been damaged. Approximately 70% of the main water network has been affected, with 25 wells completely destroyed and 12 partially damaged, exacerbating the water crisis in the city over recent months and hindering the ability of displaced persons to obtain water.
The memorandum will also contribute to the repair of water pumps in the city, provide necessary materials for extending external water networks, and purchase water barrels for central filling points, as well as operational materials such as diesel and gas, and maintenance of water pumps, to deliver water to densely populated areas where displaced persons are located. This aims to prevent health disasters and improve environmental conditions, thereby providing services to citizens.
The UAE is working to alleviate the burden on the Khan Younis municipality following damage to the city's water networks and the municipality's incapacity due to destruction and the ground invasion of the city, which hinders its ability to supply water to all areas amidst a significant increase in the number of displaced persons now reaching approximately 900,000.
It is noteworthy that the UAE provides humanitarian aid and water to displaced families in various areas of the sector as part of "Operation Al-Faris Al-Shaham 3," contributing daily to providing water for thousands of displaced persons in an effort to alleviate the suffering of residents amid the catastrophic conditions in the Gaza Strip.
