Announcement from the Lebanese Forces: The Constitution Governs the Presidential Elections

The media department of the Lebanese Forces party stated in a statement that "the resistance axis continues to disseminate falsehoods in the political and media space, and one cannot overlook these falsehoods without clarifying them so that no incorrect detail remains in the minds of the Lebanese.

Firstly, for those who express concern for the principle of dialogue and call on the opposition to accept this dialogue, we point out that the opposition has proposed two dialogue options without undermining the constitution, and all that remains for the resistance is to choose whichever approach it prefers from these two options.

Secondly, for those questioning the motives behind the official dialogue table's rejection, we say that the constitution governs presidential elections, and any deviation from it is unacceptable. The constitution does not stipulate any official dialogue table; rather, it mandates the immediate convening of the parliament in the event of a presidential vacancy, even without an invitation from its president, to carry out its electoral duty until a new president is elected.

Thirdly, some said yesterday that "sticking to rigid opinions is unhelpful"; however, we ask, who is truly stuck in rigid opinions and does not budge an inch? Is it not those who nominated former minister Sleiman Franjieh and have not deviated from that choice for a year and a half now, or is it those who nominated MP Michel Moawad and then nominated former minister Jihad Azour, and who express their acceptance to move to a third candidate at every opportunity? Who is the group steadfast in rigid opinions: those who presented three approaches to resolve the presidential impasse, or those who insist on a single unachievable approach?

Fourthly, for those talking about stabbing in the back, we remind them that all we are doing is raising some legitimate questions in the dangerous situation we find ourselves in and proposing exits from the quagmire they have trapped themselves in, along with the nation. Those who stabbed the majority of the Lebanese people in the back are the ones who dragged them into a war that serves the interests of no one but elevates Iran's standing in the region.

Fifthly, for those implying a new relationship with MP Gibran Bassil, we say congratulations to you, provided that you maintain it forever, God willing.

Sixthly, for those who care about not isolating the Lebanese Forces and the opposition, we thank you for your concern, but what the people have given cannot be isolated by anyone."
