As pressure mounts from Democrats on U.S. President Joe Biden to withdraw from the presidential race, Donald Trump announced on Thursday his acceptance of the Republican Party's nomination for the presidential election. In a speech delivered on the last day of the party conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Trump promised to be a president for all Americans, not just half of them. He stated, "We will achieve a tremendous victory and embark on a new era of prosperity."
Regarding the assassination attempt he faced during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, Trump described the experience as "terrifying." He stated that he immediately realized the threat and that he was under attack, emphasizing that the bullet was very close and could have ended his life. He remarked, "If I hadn't moved my head before the shot, I wouldn't be alive now," and added, "I almost wasn't with you at this conference."
He explained that he raised his right hand after the gunfire to reassure the crowd, noting that some attendees rushed forward believing he had been shot. Trump also praised the Secret Service agents for their bravery, asserting that despite the incident and seeing blood, he felt secure because of the protection.
The presidential candidate emphasized his commitment to saving democracy for all Americans, stating, "We are determined to unite America." He called for rescuing the country from what he termed "failed management," in reference to Biden's administration. He acknowledged that the United States is experiencing a difficult time due to this administration, saying: "We are living a real inflation crisis under this man's management," referring to Biden. He mentioned that he referenced Biden's name now but would not use it again today.
Trump reiterated his desire for America to be stronger and safer, noting that he chose JD Vance as his running mate, calling him a strong and great man. He viewed the immigration crisis as an invasion of the country, vowing to end it by completing the wall on the border with Mexico, stressing that the United States is undergoing a real crisis due to immigration and the consequences of Biden's administration's decisions.
He declared that he would close the borders on the first day of his new term if elected. Additionally, he pointed out that he significantly reduced taxes during his previous term, promising the American people that he would end the devastating inflation crisis. Trump criticized the current administration for failing to resolve America's issues and asserted that the upcoming elections would be the most significant in the country's history.
He also pledged to create jobs and revive the economy by expanding oil drilling, stressing that his previous administration achieved great things across all areas. He confirmed that he would provide better services to all Americans, noting that there are campaigns to distort the achievements of his past administration, but that despite that, the document case has been dismissed.
The former president announced that he raised $6.3 million for the family of the person killed in the assassination attempt. Additionally, Trump thanked his wife Melania for standing by his side. Regarding foreign policy, he believed that Iran is now close to acquiring nuclear weapons. He affirmed that the attack on Israel would not have happened if he were in office. He again pledged to end the war in Ukraine if he wins and asserted that he would resolve all international crises created by the current administration, saying, "Countries around the world are laughing at us because of the current administration."
