The Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani, inaugurated the Second Baghdad International Conference on Drug Control today, Monday. The media office of the Prime Minister stated, "Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani inaugurated the activities of the Second Baghdad International Conference on Drug Control." Earlier, Medhiha al-Maksoosi, a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Drug Control, said in a statement to the Qatari newspaper Al-Arabi Al-Jadid, that "the Iraqi government is giving great attention to the issue of combating drugs, due to the significant danger this plague poses to Iraqi society by increasing rates of various crimes."
She added that "Iraq has succeeded in forming a committee and a joint operations room with neighboring countries and some countries worldwide to track drug traffickers, especially within international networks, and has achieved success in uncovering many of these networks and capturing dangerous international dealers at the regional and global levels," noting that "the international conference that Baghdad intends to host soon to combat drugs is very important."
She mentioned that "this conference will produce important recommendations, including increasing cooperation and coordination in this war, expanding collaboration, and exchanging information to prevent this trade and its transfer between all countries," clarifying that "the recommendations that will be issued by the interior ministers of the region and others will be binding for those countries, which will have a positive impact on Iraq's war against drugs."
