European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on Friday that "the bloc has allocated €1.5 billion from the revenues of frozen Russian assets as military assistance for Ukraine." Von der Leyen wrote on the platform "X": "The European Union supports Ukraine. Today we are transferring €1.5 billion from the revenues of frozen Russian assets to defend and rebuild Ukraine." At the end of last month, European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell stated that the first tranche of revenues from frozen Russian assets would be transferred to Ukraine within "the next week."
