A Call from the Minister of Education... So Celebrations Do Not Turn into Mourning

The Minister of Education and Higher Education in the caretaker government, Abbas Halabi, issued a call to citizens, warning them about the dangers of gunfire during the announcement of the official results for the high school certificate exams. He emphasized that these are moments of joy, happiness, and pride, and urged everyone to adhere to the laws to ensure that celebrations do not turn into mourning.

The minister noted that the ministry will announce the date of the results hours before their release, as soon as the examining committees are ready, and the website for this purpose will be specified, denying all rumors circulating on social media about this matter.

In the minister’s statement, he said: "Our country is going through difficult circumstances, multiple crises, and dangers, not least of which are the Israeli attacks on our people in the South, which have not spared schools and students in the border villages, while the majority of citizens struggle to secure their needs amid challenging living conditions. As the Ministry of Education and Higher Education prepares to release the official examination results for the high school certificate in its four branches, after completing the requirements to preserve the Lebanese certificate, following the results of technical baccalaureate and technical excellence certificates, we urge parents and stakeholders to exhibit the utmost sense of ethical responsibility and refrain from gunfire in celebration because it poses a danger to public safety and to people and their properties, and it causes tragedies leading to the loss of innocent lives."

He added: "The Ministry of Education appeals to citizens not to engage in gunfire, which represents a violation of the law and is a dangerous, lethal, and outdated practice, especially given the current conditions in which Lebanon faces existential challenges. It is unnecessary to remind that this phenomenon imposes responsibilities on everyone to confront it and address the disasters it causes. To avoid dangers and disasters, the Ministry of Education will work in coordination with the Ministry of Interior to prevent the spread of this phenomenon. At the same time, it will pursue individuals who fire weapons and terrify parents in celebration of success, a criminal act that threatens society and leads to the killing of innocents."

He concluded by saying: "The Ministry of Education calls on parents to celebrate their children’s success with ethical grace, away from armed displays, and urges everyone to adhere to the laws so that celebrations do not turn into mourning."
