The Kremlin announced today, Thursday, that Russian President Vladimir Putin met with his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad in Moscow yesterday, Wednesday. Putin stated: "We have the opportunity to talk about our entire system of relations. I am very interested in knowing your opinion on how the situation in the region as a whole is developing, which unfortunately tends to worsen, and this also directly applies to Syria." He hoped that "we could also discuss our trade and economic relations, which have promising trends."
Assad said: "My visit today coincides with the 80th anniversary of the establishment of relations between our two countries. Our countries have gone through very difficult tests over the past decades. The relations between our two countries have maintained mutual trust, which is an indicator of the maturity of our peoples." He added: "In light of the events taking place globally and in the Eurasian region, our meeting today is extremely important to discuss the details of the developments, prospects, and possible scenarios."
