The Royal Commission for Riyadh City and the Ministry of Sports announced the designs and future concepts for King Salman Stadium and its sports facilities, one of the largest sports stadiums in the world. It will serve as the main venue for the Saudi national team and host major sporting events and activities.
The stadium is located in northern Riyadh on King Salman Road, adjacent to King Abdulaziz Park. Its location offers proximity to vital sites in the city, such as King Khalid International Airport, and connects to the Riyadh Metro station and major roadways, making it easily accessible from all parts of the city.
The construction of the stadium is supported by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, reflecting their commitment to sports and athletes through the development of the sector, enabling them, and improving their performance. This significantly contributes to enhancing the Kingdom's position as a leading center for sports.
The design of King Salman Stadium and its sports facilities has been approved, with completion scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2029. The design was chosen from several proposals submitted by six specialized global firms that presented the best ideas and designs to meet the requirements of FIFA, sustainability standards, and architectural excellence. The overall layout and design are inspired by the "mountainous land," integrated with King Abdulaziz Park by connecting it to the valley that runs through the park surrounding the stadium and green spaces.
The architectural design of the main stadium features green walls and ceilings covering an area exceeding 96,500 square meters. The stadium design is inspired by local architecture and meets environmental sustainability and green building requirements, positioning it as a unique global architectural sports icon, qualified to host significant local and international entertainment events. This will enhance the quality of life in Riyadh and improve the city's global ranking as one of the "Best Cities to Live in the World."
The area of King Salman Stadium and its sports facilities exceeds 660,000 square meters, including a range of facilities for various sports activities. It also includes several commercial centers and recreational areas available for all age groups throughout the day, making it an attractive destination for visitors from both inside and outside the Kingdom.
King Salman Stadium has a main seating capacity of 92,000, including a royal box for 150 seats, 120 hospitality suites, 300 VIP seats, and 2,200 seats for distinguished guests. The stadium features sustainable cooling systems for spectator seats and the playing field, and it is surrounded by internal screens for the audience. Additionally, there are internal gardens and a walking path on the roof of the stadium, providing a unique view of King Abdulaziz Park, thus offering an exceptional experience for visitors.
The overall plan for King Salman Stadium includes several sports facilities surrounding the main stadium, covering an area exceeding 360,000 square meters. Some of the highlights are two training fields, fan zones, an indoor gym, an Olympic swimming pool, and an athletics track, in addition to outdoor courts for volleyball, basketball, and padel for various sports activities, which will be available for all age groups. All these facilities are connected by a 9-kilometer sports track around King Abdulaziz Park.
It is worth noting that the implementation of King Salman Stadium and its sports facilities will contribute to enhancing the practice of sports activities in the community, fostering a generation of athletes who adopt a healthy lifestyle and compete regionally and globally, achieving excellence in sports. It will provide the necessary infrastructure to keep pace with sports development in accordance with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, and the stadium will play a significant role in hosting major global and entertainment events, providing diverse investment opportunities that will enhance local investment and the economy.
