Russian Deputy: Ukrainian Incursion Could Ignite Global War

A Russian parliamentary deputy stated today, Friday, that the Western-backed Ukrainian incursion into Russia is putting the world on the brink of a full-scale world war. Ukrainian forces crossed into Russia's Kursk region on August 6th and have significantly advanced since then, forcing Moscow to evacuate over two hundred thousand people from their homes.

The Russian news agency reported Deputy Mikhail Sheremet as saying, "Considering the presence of Western military equipment and the use of Western ammunition and missiles in attacks on civilian infrastructure, as well as compelling evidence of foreign involvement in the attack on Russian territory, we can conclude that the world is on the verge of World War III."

Sheremet, a member of the Russian parliament's defense committee, claimed that NATO countries have greenlighted the incursion plans, an accusation denied by the United States.

Nikolai Patrushev, an aide to President Vladimir Putin, also accused the West of being behind the attack in an interview with the newspaper "Izvestia." Patrushev claimed that NATO and Western intelligence were directly involved in planning the Kursk operation but did not provide any evidence.

Ukraine and its allies say that Russia is receiving support for its war efforts from China, Iran, and North Korea. Earlier on Friday, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing cooperation with Russia and expressed confidence that Moscow would prevail in its "holy war for peace and justice."

Patrushev stated that the military coalition led by the United States and the West is directly involved in planning Ukraine's attack on the Russian region of Kursk. He mentioned in the "Izvestia" interview that U.S. claims of non-involvement in the attack are untrue. He quoted as saying, "The operation in the Kursk region was planned with participation also from NATO and Western intelligence."

He added: "The statements from U.S. leadership that they were not involved in Kiev's crimes in the Kursk region are not true; were it not for their participation and direct support, Kiev would not have dared to enter Russian territory."

The White House stated that Ukraine did not inform the United States in advance of its incursion into Russia and that Washington had no role in the operation. The Russian Ministry of Defense released footage showing American weapons in the Russian Kursk region.
