The Syndicate of Food Importers, headed by Hani Bahsali, issued a statement today, Tuesday, in which it launched what it considers an urgent call to the relevant ministries and departments. It urged them "in light of the delicate and exceptional circumstances that Lebanon is going through, to take extraordinary and swift measures to expedite the clearance of imported food commodities present in the Port of Beirut and to deliver them to their owners in preparation for safe storage inside Lebanon, away from any risks, in order to maintain food security for the Lebanese."
The syndicate announced that "our request today is not a complaint against the relevant ministries and departments regarding the delays in transactions and the clearance of goods, but rather to draw the attention of the responsible officials in the state to the necessity of taking quick measures to transfer the food commodities that have arrived at the Port of Beirut to safe locations."
It noted that "the completion of the clearance transactions for food commodities from the port is linked to the ministries of Agriculture, Economy, Trade, Finance, Industry, Customs, laboratories, and others." It emphasized that "this issue requires full coordination and cooperation among all these entities to develop an emergency plan for the clearance of goods and their transfer to warehouses," appreciating "the close and constructive cooperation of the syndicate with all the mentioned parties for the benefit of Lebanon and the Lebanese."
