The Iranian President, Masoud Bezheskyan, while taking the constitutional oath before the Parliament, stated, “We will work to strengthen regional relations and cooperation with the world based on wisdom and common interests.” He indicated that “our government will be a national unity government representing all segments of the population, and we will act according to the vision of the Iranian leader, Ali Khamenei.”
He emphasized, “We will work on developing relations with neighboring countries to improve the lives of the people in the region, and we have opened a new chapter. I will work to protect the rights of the Iranian people on the international level.” He also reiterated, “We will work to enhance regional relations and cooperation with the world based on wisdom and common interests.”
Bezheskyan noted that “those who support the killers of children in Gaza cannot teach us lessons in human rights, therefore, we will work to free the dear Palestinian people from occupation.” The ceremony for the inauguration of the newly elected Iranian President Masoud Bezheskyan took place in the Parliament building in Tehran, attended by high-ranking guests from about 80 countries. The ninth president of Iran took his constitutional oath in accordance with Article 121 of the Constitution, in the presence of parliament members, members of the Guardian Council, and the head of the judiciary.
The ceremony included the playing of the Iranian national anthem, a recitation from the Quran, greetings and a speech by the Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf—Bezheskyan’s competitor in the recent elections—and a speech by the head of the judiciary, Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei, followed by a statement from the elected president.
A reporter from Novosti noted that security measures in the Iranian capital have been heightened. Today, shops in the Baharestan Square, located near the Parliament building, remained closed. According to Iranian media reports, transportation procedures in the capital were altered in connection with the inauguration ceremony, while Tehran's civil airport continued to operate normally.
Early presidential elections in Iran were held on June 28, 2024, following the death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash on May 19. The first round resulted in Masoud Bezheskyan and Saeed Jalili leading, followed by a second round between them on July 5, 2024, which Bezheskyan won.
